MNW Sixth Grade Team 2010-11
Teachers: Mrs. Scheffler and Mrs. Lynch

Sixth grade students are being taught this year by two veteran teachers, Mrs. Lynch and Mrs. Scheffler. In fact, Mrs. Scheffler has taught many of the parents of this class in the past!  Curriculum taught throughout the year in this grade is based on the Iowa Core Curriculum Standards.  These standards can be found at the following website: http://corecurriculum.iowa.gov.

The teachers are excited this year to also incorporate the use of the online tutoring program called Skills Iowa which gives the students opportunity to practice reading and math skills.  Mrs. Lynch’s emphasis during inservice days will be learning more about the new math program called Everyday Math.     Mrs. Scheffler’s emphasis will be on incorporating more technology into the curriculum, especially by the students. Old dogs can learn new tricksJ  We are off to a great year!

This link will take you to the homepage of Every Day Math, our new math program. Once there, please click on the launch button for "Free Family Resources". It is found at the top of the website. Here you will find explanations of how to use the algorithms (procedures) taught for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Although these aren't the only procedures used in our math program, they are some of the most important ones, called "focus algorithms". You can select the grade level you want to learn more about, and the operation you want to explore
