Baseball News: Six Cougars Earn All-Conference Honors

Six Manson Northwest Webster baseball players earned all conference honors for their performance during the 2008 Twin Lakes Conference season.  Junior Matt Rowen earned his third consecutive selection to the 1st team.  Matt was 2-1 on the mound with a 1.64 earned run average to go along with 30 strikeouts in only 21 1/3 innings pitched.  Matt also recorded one save.  This was the second year in a row that Matt was selected unanimously as a pitcher.  Sophomore Kyle Twait earned his first selection to the all conference team as an infielder.  Kyle, who was also selected unanimously, batted .412 in conference play.  The Cougar lead off man also had an on base percentage of .526 with 10 runs scored, 5 RBIs and 3 doubles.  Freshmen Brandon McGinty was selected to the first team a utility player.  Brandon batted .259 with an on base percentage of .472.  He was 3-1 on the mound and had 28 strikeouts.  Junior Landon Schuttler earned a spot on the second team as an outfielder.  Landon batted .367 with an on base percentage of .579  He scored 9 runs, had 5 RBIs, 2 doubles, and a triple.  This was Landon’s second appearance on the TLC all conference team.  Junior Austin Johnson was selected to the all conference team as 2nd team pitcher.  Austin was 2-1 on the mound along with 2 saves.  Austin had 25 strikeouts in 17 1/3 innings pitched.  Freshmen Brandon Wessels was selected to the second team as catcher.  Brandon batted .265 in the conference with an on base percentage of .550.  Brandon had 10 runs scored, 5 RBIs, and 11 stolen bases.  Cougar head baseball coach Mike Richman was also selected as Twin Lakes conference Co-Coach of the Year along with East Sac County’s Scott McDonough.
